Introduction

 Mokhada taluka is located 90 km east of Palghar district. Most of the population of this taluka is tribal. Most of the area of ​​this taluka is covered with forest and hilly valleys. The geographical area of ​​the taluka is 47308.42 hectares. Out of which 7000 hectares are under paddy cultivation, 4900 hectares are under nagli, 4300 hectares are variegated, 2403 hectares are pulses and 843 hectares are milled. The average rainfall in the taluka is 2500 to 3000 mm. According to the 2011 census, the population of Mokhada taluka is 83,453. Out of which the rural population is 73,180 and the urban (municipal council-Mokhada) population is 10273. There are 41691 males and 41762 females in it. The Scheduled Tribe rural population is 69164 and the urban Nagar Panchayat population is 7678 and the Scheduled Caste rural population is 1447, the urban Nagar Panchayat population is 175 and the other rural population is 2569 and the urban Nagar Panchayat population is 2420. The place of the taluka is Mokhada and it is situated at an altitude of 1600 feet above sea level. There are 27 Gram Panchayats in this taluka and there are 56 revenue villages in it. There are 03 Zilla Parishad groups and 06 Panchayat Samiti election groups under Mokhada. Nasik district is in the east of Mokhada taluka and Trimbakeshwar Nagar Panchayat is adjacent. Jawhar taluka is in the west of Mokhada taluka, Wada taluka in the south, and the border of Nasik district and Gujarat state is in the north. All three seasons, summer, monsoon and winter, are strongly felt in this taluka. Since most of this taluka is mountainous and has rivers, rice, nagli, and varai are the main crops grown here, along with tur, urad and khurasani. Also, as a supplementary crop, mogra cultivation, flower cultivation, brinjal, chilli, tomato, cashew, mango, mulberry and recently strawberry are cultivated. There are Khoch, Palaspada, and Madhyavaitarna dams in the taluka. In this taluka, Rangpanchami Bohada festival is held in Mokhada and a yatra is held at Deobandh. In Mokhada taluka, there is an ancient Ganesh temple at Deobandh, Hanuman temple at Mokhada, Vitthal temple at Mokhada, Saibaba temple at Mokhada, Jagdambamata temple at Mokhada and an ancient Shiva temple at Osarvira. Also, there are historical places at Washala, Pandavaleni, and a nature therapy center at Suryamal. This taluka has a large number of tribal communities like Warli, Konkana, Katkari, Dhorkoli, K. Thakur, M. Thakur and Mahadev Koli.
