Public/community toilets are being provided to families who do not have personal toilets due to lack of space, as well as to people coming from outside/migrating due to various reasons. Pay and Use system is also being implemented in some Gram Panchayats, which helps in maintaining the cleanliness level of public toilets and maintenance and repair from the amount received. This will help in creating a clean and beautiful environment in public places in every village.
Public toilets are approved taking into account previous experience with public toilets, village needs, availability of electricity and water, maintenance and repair facilities, cost of maintenance and repair at the local level, selection of a convenient location for toilet use, guarantee from the Gram Panchayat that this public toilet will remain in use, etc.
